Some ATV manufacturers recommend semi-synthetic oil over full synthetic in hot conditions for a few reasons:
Balanced Performance – Semi-synthetic oil combines the benefits of both conventional and synthetic oils, offering good heat resistance while maintaining a thicker film for engine protection.
Clutch Compatibility – Some ATVs have wet clutch systems, where full synthetic oil can be too slippery, potentially causing clutch slippage. Semi-synthetic oil provides better friction characteristics for these setups.
Seal and Component Longevity – In certain engines, full synthetic oil can be too thin, leading to potential leaks or excessive wear on seals and gaskets. Semi-synthetic oil helps maintain proper lubrication without compromising engine integrity.
Cost vs. Performance – While full synthetic oil offers superior heat resistance, semi-synthetic oil provides a cost-effective alternative with adequate protection for high-temperature conditions.
